Are your creative juices flowing again and all you need is a little motivation? Do you want to escape your crazy every day life for a bit and just engage in one of your favorite past time activities; writing? Then you should definitely check this out: Camp NaNoWriMo
Last year, we have already talked about National Novel Writing Month, what it is, and how ambient background music can help you to focus more on your own writing, and help you to get even more inspiration. However, the “normal” NaNoWriMo takes place in November, and this is where Camp NaNoWriMo is different.
“Camp” NaNoWriMo
Much like when participating in the National Novel Writing Month, encouragement and motivation, support and helpful resources will be provided to sou by the staff of Camp NaNoWriMo, professional writers, and your fellow “Campers”. Plan and track the progress of your novel in a more open-ended period. Camp sessions take place in April and July, and you can work on non-novel projects as well. The word goals aren’t fixed on 50.000 words either. Goals of 10.000 or even 1.000.000 words are welcome as well.
Despite of having a real, physical camp, however – as the name would suggest – Camp NaNoWriMo is an online camp where you can get away from the everyday stress and craziness of life to just concentrate on your writing. It’s like the summer camp you went to as a kid – but online. Furthermore, you can set up a so-called “cabin” that allows you to communicate and exchange encouragement and advice with a group of 11 other like-minded people. Depending on your “Cabin settings” you will be randomly assigned to a cabin based on your interests, writing goals, genre, age group, or word count. You can, of course, set up a private cabin for yourself and your friends as well.
Want to participate? The next Camp session starts in July already!
Fitting Background Sounds
Ambient-Mixer user kari4848 has shown how you can use your own personal ambient atmosphere to motivate yourself and get into the writing of your own novel. Backstage has been created to set the scene for the busy activities behind the curtains of a musical, fitting the genre and setting of the novel that is about to get written. Other atmospheres have been created for past NaNoWriMo events as well, but the best way to go is to create your very own personal one, because it would definitely fit the genre, mood, setting, and ideas of your own novel! Hoever, general writing atmospheres can help you focus as well.
Depending on your genre, Steampunk, Fantasy, Horror, and Science Fiction atmospheres can bring you in the right mood for writing. They can all be found in our Unreal Ambiences category.
Generally relaxing atmospheres or those that contain music – preferably without any distracting lyrics – can greatly enhance your writing performance as well.
Since we are talking about Camp NaNoWriMo though, why not dream yourself away in a real camp environment. Crackling campfires surrounded by the sounds of nature, either by day or night, can give you the feeling of participating a real summer camp again.
